Engineered Wood Flooring
What is Engineered Flooring?
Engineered flooring arose in Europe in response to the perceived waste of solid wood flooring and the increasing shortages of noble woods. With changes in housing construction methods and less use of structural solid flooring to span joists, engineered flooring became thinner, down to 12mm and featured only a thin, 3.5mm layer of decorative timber. The addition of cross banded ply’s in the make-up of the product also ensures total stability and minimizes between board shrinkage and cupping which are common issues in solid wood flooring. Finally, the pre-finishing of the product and ease of laying allows for cost saving in the installation and removes the need for messy sanding and finishing. All in all, engineered flooring adds up to better utilization of our precious wood resources while ensuring you can enjoy the beauty of natural products at affordable prices.
What makes our flooring different?
Firstly, the Engineered Forever Range is 19mm thick flooring with a 5.5mm wear layer (normal solid wood flooring has a 6mm wear layer above the tongue while most engineered flooring is 3.5 or 4.2mm ) We deliberately make it like this because we understand people want value and security, and the thickness of the top layer is key. You can only sand 5 mm off a solid board before the top of the tongue will start to break out, so we make our flooring to give the same life span as solid timber.
Secondly, we make it thick, because we want you to be able to lay it over joists or battens, thus saving on other hidden building materials.
Lastly, we want to guarantee stability and suitability in glue down installations and over under-floor heating systems.
And of course you get some of New Zealand’s finest sustainably produced hardwoods to enrich your home for generations.
